88th Flight is a Vulture-class droid starfighter squadron in the service of the navy of the Confederacy of Independent Systems and later in the New Confederacy of Independent Systems' navy. It is the fighter squadron used by the famous General Grievous in many early battles of the Clone Wars. However, the 88th Flight was losing due the villainous Jedi pilot Anakin Skywalker forcing the heroic cyborg General to get a new Vulture Droid squadron which he later named The Grievous Legion. This however caused tension between the two fighter squadrons as they became rivals for Grievous's attention but Grievous wants them to get along,
Characteristics[]
Vulture Droids of 88th Flight are marked with the slate-gray, blue and light-grey colors of the Confederate Navy/New Confederate Navy, uniquely striped diagonally across the hull of the droids' hull plating to identify them apart from other Vulture Droid squadrons. Droid starfighters of the squadron are equipped with comparatively minimal defenses and shielding, as well as blaster cannons, Vulture droid missiles, and energy torpedoes. They are provided with basic targeting and defensive systems. When grounded, 88th Flight Droids are less maneuverable on land than in flight. However, units are able to redirect power not being used for starfighter combat into weapons and shields, balancing their performance as ground assault units.
Certain units of the squadron are upgraded for command operations, and are equipped with better targeting and shielding systems. These command units are marked with vertical yellow stripes on the fore and aft ends of their upper wings, identifying them apart from their subordinate squadron members.
