The Droid Tri-Fighter, often shortened as the Tri-Fighter or what the clone troopers/Stormtroopers call them, the Tri-Droid Fighter, are deadly Droid Fighters used for the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars. During the late part of the Clone Wars, even more deadly Tri-Fighters were made called Black Droid Tri-Fighters. They make a comeback for the New Confederacy of Independent Systems later on as The Last of the Droids raged on.
Characteristics[]
A standard Droid Tri-Fighter measures 5.4 meters in length, making it the smallest starship in both the Separatist and Republic navies. A space-faring relative of the Trade Federation's dreaded droideka, the Tri-Fighter Is designed with a sole purpose in mind: total destruction of their adversary. Developed for intense dogfighting and close-range space battles, the tri-fighter, unlike Vulture-class droid starfighters, feature more advanced brains than standard Separatist droid fighters, which makes it harder for an enemy to predict the fighter's movements and tactics. These brains are engineered with basic heuristic processors. A unit is able to analyze, anticipate, and mimic an opponent's attack. The Tri-Fighter's predatory programming came from the Colicoids.
Compact and heavily armed, the Tri-Fighter possesses four laser canons and discord missiles that could deploy Buzz Droids. The discord missiles are located on its bottom. Support clamps are connected to its wing cannons, and one of the tri-fighter's weapons, the nose-tip laser cannon, is at the front of the fighter near its photoreceptors and port sensors. The droid starfighter also has a payload of proton torpedoes or concussion missiles. A radiation vent and cooling radiator are on its repulsorlift wings, and these wings were for flying in a planet's atmosphere. The droid also has three drive thrusters and a gyroscopic reactor core.
Droid Tri-Fighters are usually deployed in groups of 3-12 which makes them deadly to Clone trooper pilots and later TIE Pilots. Tri-Fighters and Vulture Droids usually deployed together in battle, but in some cases, Droid Tri-Fighters would be deployed with Hyena-class bombers. They are very lethal. The fighter's three-armed design mimicked the skull of a ferocious predator native to Colla IV.
Notable Tri-Fighter Squadrons[]
History[]
Origins[]
Droid Tri-Fighters were designed by the same beings, the Colicoid Creation Nest who made the deadly Droideka which made the Tri-Fighter deadly in space. They sold their deadly Droid-Tri Fighters to the Confederacy of Independent Systems and the CIS deployed them late in the Clone Wars in 21 BBY.
The Clone Wars[]
Droid Tri-Fighters became a staple in the Confederate Navy in 21 BBY. They were seen during the various battles in the Clone Wars but were only deployed when necessary.
Battle of Kashyyyk[]
Several Tri-Fighters were deployed alongside Vulture Droids, Hyena-class bombers & Trade Federation Droid Bombers during the Battle of Kashyyyk aiding Grievous's Armada against the evil Republic Fighters.
Attack on the Naboo Shipyards[]
Tri-Fighters were one of the various Droid Fighters launched by the heroic T-series tactical droid TZ-34 during the Attack on the Naboo Shipyards to aid the heroic cyborg General Grievous. The Droid Tri-Fighters were led by The Grievous Legion and destroyed numerous Republic Fighters of evil causing the Republic to fall back and TZ-34 to take over Naboo.
2nd Battle of Naboo[]
Battle of Skako[]
Attack on Coruscant[]
Black Droid Tri-Fighters[]
Though Tri-Fighters were very powerful in battles, they were getting destroyed by the Republic's new evil Z-95 Headhunters & V-Wing Starfighters. Grievous and the Confederacy of Independent Systems decided to have the Colicoid Creation Nest make Black Droid Tri-Fighters, a much faster and modified version of the standard Tri-Fighter.
The Last of the Droids[]
Ringo Vinda[]
3 Droid Tri-Fighters are seen on patrol at the Ringo Vinda Space Station. During the 2nd Battle of Ringo Vinda, Tri-Fighters launched from Trench's Providence-class carrier/destroyer and engaged the TIE Fighters. A few of them attacked the Imperial-I class Star Destroyer Starblazerand destroyed one of the turbolasers.
