The OOM-series battle droids are the predecessors to B1 battle droids and served the Trade Federation Force long before the Invasion of Naboo happened. After the Trade Federation became part of the Confederacy of Independent Systems , they were seen fighting alongside their counterparts during the Clone Wars era. The OOM-series droids are used again by the New Confederacy of Independent Systems during The Last of the Droids era, helping Grievous & Trench fight the Galactic Empire. The OOM-series battle droids, while they look physically similar to the B1 battle droids, have much more advanced programming and are more intelligent.
OOM-series battle droids can be programmed for a number of functions, each with a matching color painted on the droid's body:
- OOM command battle droid—yellow (commands an entire army or ship)
- OOM security battle droid—red (secures areas such as bases and Confederacy Warships/New Confederacy Warships)
- OOM pilot battle droid—blue (operates command centers of bases or Confederacy Warships/New Confederacy Warships, drives warships and vehicles such as Armored Assault Tanks, repairs things)
- AAT driver battle droid—green (drives and commands the Armored Assault Tank)
- OOM Bomber Droid—grey and some orange (a bomber variant and similar to the Assault B1 Battle Droid)
