The TIE/LN Starfighter (Twin Ion Engine/Line starfighter) or commonly known as the TIE Fighter, is a TIE fighter used by the Galactic Republic during the late part of the Clone Wars and more famously used by the Galactic Empire during The Last of the Droids era. Numerous TIE Fighters can be stored on Imperial-I class Star Destroyers and Victory-I class Star Destroyers.
Characteristics[]
The TIE Fighter is the original design for later upgraded TIE models such as TIE/sa bomber, TIE/HU multi-role starfighter, TIE/sr starfighter, and many more. The TIE/LN's engine is one of the most precisely manufactured propulsion systems in the galaxy and, with no moving parts, was low-maintenance. Unlike the TIE before it, the TIE/LN sports independent generators for the engine and the weapons. The lack of combat shields, hyperdrive, and life-support systems, in concert with the advanced engine design, reduces the mass of the fighter and exceptional maneuverability.
Primary armament is a pair of L-s1 laser cannons, coupled with a powerful sensor suite. The cannons are relatively powerful, and a well-placed hit on a starfighter or medium transport can damage or destroy it. It does not carry missile tubes, but such weapons can be added on if necessary.
Due to the lack of life-support systems, each TIE Pilot has a fully-sealed flight suit superior to their Battle Droid counterparts.
History[]
The Clone Wars[]
The TIE/LN starfighter was an upgraded model of the original Twin Ion Engine starfighter prototype for the evil Galactic Republic in 20 BBY. Once the prototype fighter was proved as a success, TIE/LN starfighters were made on the Scarif Republic Weapons Factory to be part of the sinister Republic Navy.
In 19 BBY, the Republic Weapons Factory was attacked by the heroic Confederacy of Independent Systems under the command of General Grievous and Arzenal in a effort to save one of their friends from the evil Jedi and Krennic. Several TIE/LN starfighters, alongside TIE/HU Hunter multi-role starfighters, TIE/sk x1 experimental air superiority fighters & TIE/sa bombers deployed to attack Grievous's heroic forces. The CIS was able to save them damaging the base to the point where the Republic had to rebuild it. Due to the base being damaged and lots of the new TIE/LN fighters being destroyed, all TIE series were put on hold as the Republic continued to use their normal evil Republic Fighters until the end of the Clone Wars.
