Throughout the galaxy, any practice by which severe pain and/or suffering was inflicted on a being, whether physical or mental, is considered torture.
Torture is used for such purposes as obtaining from the subject or a third party information or a confession, or as punishment for an act an individual had or was suspected of having committed. Other motives are simple revenge or the sadistic gratification of the torturer. Torture also serves as a way of intimidating or coercing individuals, or for discriminatory reasons of any kind. Occasionally, torture is the adverse byproduct of medical or scientific research, studies, or procedures, and usually occurred without the consent of the victim. Torturous methods can be initiated at the directives of heads of state or other individuals or groups. Since Force-sensitives could sense the reactions of loved individuals, torture can be used as a means to manipulate them, even from a considerable distance.
History[]
Eeth Koth[]
After capturing the sinister Jedi Eeth Koth, General Grievous tortured him for revenge against the Jedi and punished Eeth Koth for his evil actions against him on the Steadfast. Grievous Hero also gloated as he watched his IG-100 MagnaGuard torture the villain and laughed heroically after it.
Moon Ni Rin[]
After capturing the sinister Jedi Moon Ni Rin, Grievous took her aboard his Recusant-class light destroyer and his T-series tactical droid TV-94B interrogated her. After the evil Jedi said slick comments about the heroic Supreme Commander of the Droid Armies, IG-100 MagnaGuards IG-101 and IG-102 tortured the evil Jedi.
